East Vancouver has long been a hub for diverse, vibrant food and drink culture. Rupert Street, with its bustling energy and community feel, is the ideal home for our second Hanoi Drip location. We wanted to create a space where locals could experience the slow, deliberate art of phin brewing without having to travel downtown or out to Richmond.
Our Rupert Street café is designed to be your daily stop. Whether you're grabbing a quick Cà Phê Sữa Đá before hopping on the SkyTrain or sitting down to work with a hot Cà Phê Đen (black coffee), the atmosphere here is warm, welcoming, and deeply rooted in Vietnamese coffee traditions.
If you're new to Vietnamese coffee, or just looking to try something different, here are a few favorites you must try at our East Van location:
What makes Vietnamese coffee so special? It all comes down to the beans and the brew method. We use Robusta beans, which are bolder, nuttier, and pack nearly twice the caffeine of the Arabica beans used in most Western coffee shops. These beans are perfectly suited for the phin filter.
The phin is a small metal cup that sits on top of your glass. Hot water is poured over the grounds, and the coffee slowly drips down over the course of 4 to 6 minutes. This slow extraction process creates a concentrated, intensely flavorful brew that stands up perfectly to ice and condensed milk. When you order a hot phin coffee at Rupert Street, we serve it to you right at the table so you can watch the magic happen.
No coffee break is complete without a little something to eat. At our Rupert Street location, we offer a selection of pastries and snacks that pair beautifully with the strong flavors of our coffee. From buttery croissants that you can dip into your Cà Phê Sữa Đá, to savory options for a quick lunch, we have you covered.
