Most people assume Vietnamese coffee is just any dark roast mixed with condensed milk. The biggest difference is actually the brewing method and the beans. At Hanoi Drip, we use Robusta beans sourced directly from Vietnam's Central Highlands. Robusta carries nearly twice the caffeine of Arabica and delivers a deep, earthy flavor profile.
We brew these beans using a phin—a small stainless steel filter that sits right on top of your glass. We use exactly 20 grams of coffee and water heated to 93°C, allowing it to drip slowly over 4 to 6 minutes. This slow extraction creates a concentrated, syrupy brew that cuts perfectly through ice and sweetened condensed milk.
When customers visit our Richmond café for the first time, one thing they ask us every day is, "What should I try?" Here's our recommendation:
Richmond has an incredible food scene, but we noticed a gap when it came to specialty Vietnamese coffee. We opened our Bridgeport Road location to bring the true café culture of Vietnam to the neighborhood. It's an easy stop if you're commuting, and we have plenty of seating if you want to stay and work.
Vietnamese coffee is traditionally brewed using Robusta beans and a metal phin filter. This slow-drip method produces a highly concentrated, bold coffee that is much stronger than standard Western drip coffee.

Absolutely. We sell our signature Robusta and Arabica blends in bags, along with traditional stainless steel phin filters, so you can brew authentic Vietnamese coffee at home.
Traditional Cà Phê Sữa Đá uses sweetened condensed milk, which contains dairy. However, we offer dairy-free alternatives like oat milk and coconut milk for many of our drinks.
